Did You Purchase A PS3 Before 2010? Sony May Owe You Some Money

Because of a class-action lawsuit, if you’ve purchased an original/fat PlayStation 3 between November 1, 2006 and April 1, 2010, you can now submit a claim to receive up to $55 cash payment back from Sony. Sony was sued back in 2010 after potential security issues, it updated the PlayStation software to remove the "Other OS" function from the early console model. The Other OS allowed users to set aside a part of the console's hard drive to install Linux. According to a settlement notice released today, "SCEA denies that it did anything wrong. The Court has not decided who is right in the lawsuit." That said, in June Sony and the plaintiffs reached a settlement axgreement (via Ars Technica) where it would pay back eligible customers. Those who are Class Members have 2 ways to file to receive payments. First, those who actually used the Other OS feature and submit a claim with proof of purchase within the required dates are entitled to $55, paid in full by Sony. Those who submit a claim with proof of purchase and "attest that they intended to use the Other OS function, lost value or desired functionality, or believe they were otherwise injured" are entitled to $9. Better late then never I suppose. Thoughts ?
